Representing Siemens as a firm rep for the Graduate Engineering Engagement Programme (GEEP). The programme is lead by SEO London and Royal Academy of Engineering, and we took part in a speed networking session speaking to the students about our careers, alongside other firm reps from WSP, Buro Happold, Rolls-Royce, Amey, GSK, Network Rail & more.

Really enjoyed organising my second Siemens STEM event in collaboration with Ashby School, this time for Tomorrow's Engineers Week! We hosted 39 students over 2 days, and gave them the opportunity to work as a team to solve some engineering challenges, following the engineering design process, whilst also getting them to think about the project side of things and appreciate the importance of planning 💭

It's so rewarding to see them enthusiastic, engaged and learning new things 💡 It always makes the long days in the run-up worth it!

We also had some wonderful volunteers who shared their experiences from different roles and departments during the speed networking sessions, and also gave them a tour around the site to see some of our assets in action! 💫
I am always blown away by the amount of support I have at work when it comes to events like this, thank you so much to everyone who has volunteered and assisted - hopefully we've inspired some future engineers! 👷🏻‍♀️

Happy Rail Week! I had a wonderful day volunteering at the 'Mind the Language Gap' event delivered by Business Language Champions, which hosted 84 school students at the University of Derby, and was supported by the IET.

The day was a brilliant opportunity for the students to embrace teamwork and innovation in activities that harnessed both STEM and language skills! It was great to see the engagement in rail topics and some fantastic creativity, and to also use my GCSE German & French again when judging their pitches.

Over 2 days Siemens hosted 24 students from Ashby School for our Future Makers competition.

I created, organised and ran the event: they had the opportunity to work in a team to propose a bid for a new tram system, design their own solutions with different technologies, analyse the costs whilst considering project decisions, risks and assumptions, then communicating the solution through a pitch to management.

I'm hugely grateful for the support of our management who played the role of the 'dragons' during the pitches and gave great questions & feedback. There's been a fair few months of planning, late nights & and extra hours put in, but it's been so worth it!

A before & after survey shows the event has made a positive impact on them in various areas, with an increase in knowledge of the rail industry, people considering a career in rail & careers in STEM, and it has helped them in developing several skills with increased confidence in problem solving, team-working, presenting and understanding of business.
