Took a big plunge and went from a medium-sized company to a small, seed-stage company. I was drawn in by the subject matter (we help folks design and get high-quality kitchens all online), the impact that has on your day-to-day life (I love to bake and spend a lot of time in my kitchen!), and the potential for building out really good team and company culture.

I mostly do engineering, but as with small companies, I do a little of everything.

First time making cantuccini! Served with Marsala wine because you'll have a heckin' time finding Vin Santo in SF.

Switched to management
Made the switch!

Moved from engineer to engineering manager and got to take on a great role on a great team leading some darn impressive folks.

I went full-on people manager-only - a really important decision due to (1) I had some really talented senior folks on my team, (2) the team was big! - 6 engineers and an intern - and (3) I was early in my career and  really needed to invest heavily in learning the ropes to make sure I didn't let my team down.

I really enjoyed being a manager - helping folks grow, connecting folks to the right opportunities, and being able to lend my privilege and position to others.

My third? attempt baking bread. Our team attempted to recreate a cranberry-walnut bread as part of the company baking competition. Got wrecked, but the bread (and the corresponding fig jam) actually turned out alright considering!

Built a system for groups of ultra-cheap quadrotors to discover and map collaboratively. A fun combo of theoretical and actually getting to play around with hardware and mapping physical spaces, in a space I knew very little about before starting.
