Coloring with Markers

This piece was done in memory of my father, who passed in early 2019. It's a free-hand, not from reference, on textured 11x14 heavystock paper, using alcohol-based markers.

He was also an artist. When he was ill, I helped him hang some colored LED string lights around where his bed was set up; he said that he liked the colors. When I visited him during this time, I had a ritual of going out to a local mexican restaurant, and during one of the visits it was decorated for _dia de los muertos_ and I think the motif just kind of stuck with me. It wasn't intended to be appropriation, but I did want to acknowledge the very obvious point of inspriation.
