Usability testing on Margot Community's prototype

I have conducted a combination of unmoderated and moderated testing. The success metric for unmoderated usability testing is that there is no dropout rate. The success metric for moderated usability testing is that users can complete the task without my guidance.

Key takeaway

After conducting the moderated testing based on the alarming dropouts, I realized I could have kept the mission task very specific. For example- "You have booked with Hannah Vargas numerous times and, you trust her service. You have an upcoming interview and, you wish to pick Hannah's brain on how to ace it. Book a 20-min session with Hannah Vargas on 26th Aug". The drawback of keeping the task general is that users expect a full-fledged working prototype. They are not aware that the scope of the project is to concentrate on the most pressing issue. Therefore, it is crucial to communicate so with the users.

Presentation on Margot Community case study

This was my first-ever case study presentation, where I demonstrated the hi-fidelity prototype by introducing a real character.

Cause for celebration

The TAs commented that I am an excellent storyteller.

Key takeaways

  • During the presentation, I gained insights from my classmates about the aspects to cover during a portfolio walkthrough. It involves walking through the design thought process and explaining the "why".
  • Initially, I had designed the UI using this trend called Neumorphism. I came across this trend via Dribbble when I started working as a designer. Hence, I thought of applying this trend for my first case study. While Neumorphism looks stunning, it is not necessarily usable. It makes everything look clickable. We as UX designers should live by the motto: "Usability first, visuals later."

Usability testing on unplugged's prototype

Conducted unmoderated usability test on Unplugged case study with 4 users and discovered the following key areas to further improve on:
  • Adding more options and questions to personalize the cabin search results
  • Improving the structure of filter sections
  • Using real images instead of illustrations to represent landmarks and activities in this case study

Key takeaway

Being mindful about providing hints to the user. There was an instance where I had influenced the user about an interface.

Showcasing our case study on Unplugged.rest

An exciting day for Team Yogastar to perform a walkthrough of our case study.

We showcased our thought process on the improvement of Unplugged.rest's search feature.

Key takeaway

It is crucial to understand when to use illustrations versus when to use images. In case of unplugged, utilizing images would convey the message better than that of an illustration.
