Great fun speaking on a panel this week, as part of the General Assembly 2030 Movement: "Is Data Killing UX Design Instinct?". The two definitely work together; after all, instinct isn't based on nothing, but on information, experience and learning about what works and what doesn't work, over time.
I think we need to be a lot more courageous as designers. Business is all about squashing everything into ever-more efficient, predictable, scalable and safe processes and outputs, but real life and real design just isn't like that all the time. Not everything that counts can be counted, and not everything that can be counted counts.
