Location of Mount Everest


Mount Everest located in the Kumjung region of Nepal. However one must not forget the fact that this mountain is shared between China and Nepal. To be exact, the mountain lies in the border between China and Nepal.


First Person to climb Mount Everest


Sir Edmund Hilary, a bee keeper and a mountaineer from New Zealand and his climbing companion Tenzin Hilary was the first person to summit to the top of Everest. They achieved this feat on 29 May 1953. Reminiscing this day, Everest Marathon is held each year around the vicinity of Mt. Everest. Starting at 5364m high, the marathon is considered to be one of the toughest and highest races in the world. 

However there are controversies over whether George Mallory was successful summiting the top first. Mallory's ultimate fate was unknown for seventy five years, until is body was discovered on 1 May 1999. 

New Height of Mount Everest 


A recent joint survey by Nepal and China has officially announced the new height of Everest to be 8848.86 meters, which is 0.86 m taller than the previous one. Over the years, there has been a debate over the exact height of Mt. Everest. Adding stress to geologist's, the mountain grows yearly because of the motion of Indian and Tibetan tectonic plates. 


Climbing Mount Everest


There are two classical routes to climb Mt. Everest. One is the 
North Route from China and the South route from Nepal. The Southern climbing route from Nepal is famous for the logistic and bureaucratic reasons. You'll need to acquire climbing permit from the government of the side you're climbing, either Nepal or China. The climbing season on Mount Everest is April and May yearly. There are also fewer expeditions on winter.  


Cost to Climb Mount Everest. 


Everest is Expensive. For South Expedition from Nepal, you will need to obtain climbing permit from Nepal Government which costs around USD 1 1,000. That's before you buy the first piece of gear to you will require to climb the mountain. Also, you'll need to buy for your Sherpa, your mountain guide. The price ranges from from $28,000 to $85,000. Typically, this includes transportation from Kathmandu, food, accommodation, base camp tents, supplemental oxygen, and Sherpa support.
