Frustrated with cataloguing expense receipts, I built an apple script that deployed terminal—and another app that I can’t recall, at the moment—to extract text from .pdf files using Regular Expressions (RegEx). The script crawled over 500 bank statements, looking for transactions to extract and export into individual .pdf files. The script also exported all data into one excel file, which I later used to categorize my business and personal expenses from 2005-2013.
