I have worked with a few people who blame themselves for every mistake. They often use "I could've done that, I should've known that" or any other phrase in the same line.

This behavior often looks innocent. However, people who use these phrases (blame absorbers) harm the team and the people around them. They create accidental adversaries, and in the long term, they hurt themselves. They miss the big picture and can't see how everything contributes to the mistake.
