Leaders Need To Know The Most Words In The Room

As a business leader you don’t need to be the smartest person in the room, just the one that knows the most words.
One of guys I’m consulting was freaking out because his start up got accepted into an accelerator and he spends all day in meetings surrounded by VCs, Engineers, and other really technical people.
As the leader, your role isn’t to be the best at everything. Your role is about bringing the best people together and serving as a bridge.
You don’t need to know every detail of accounting, your accountant should. You don’t need to know every line of code, your programmer does. You don’t need know every editing tip, your marketer does.
But you need to be the one person in the room that understands what each person is saying and be able to translate it for the others. You’re the bridge, not the islands. Not the expert, just the one that knows the most definitions.
