We've all heard about the MVP, but with a focus on product/market fit & positioning, what do you use if you're not developing a commercial product or are much earlier in the development cycle (maybe with a concept or design)?
Most of my own engineering design work is for international development, or SDG related impacts, I needed something else to "grade" or structure the development of early-stage concepts/designs or even later-stage impact "products" in non-commercial sectors. Not only for personal use, but also to help position (and subsequently share) some of the fantastic impact innovations arising from other great work around the world.
After some initial inspiration from Daniel Kyne's thoughts on MVP's over on his blog (See: https://www.opinionx.co/blog/mvps
), I've gathered some thoughts on additional grouping beyond the standard MVP hence the below; Minimum Innovation Framework (MIF). An early attempt at a dual-focused framework allowing the assessment and ranking of functional and business ability of new innovations (product, service, societal etc.) to solve a desired problem for innovations with or without business requirements for application (https://www.qeios.com/read/7RLS16.2
The framework consists of both the Minimum Viable Innovation Framework (MVI Framework) and the Minimum Functional Innovation Framework (MFI Framework) covering the following framework definitions: Viable Concept (Minimum Viable Concept (MVC), Viable Design (Minimum Viable Design (MVD), Viable Product (Minimum Viable Product (MVP), Functional Concept (Minimum Functional Concept (MFC), Functional Design (Minimum Functional Design (MFD) and Functional Product (Minimum Functional Product (MFP). All definitions are online via Qeios
great definition feature, and are solidly work-in-progress to build upon the MVP work by Frank Robinson, Steve Blank & Eric Ries)
I would love to hear any and all thoughts, feedback and insights to help me develop this framework further to support impact, commercial/non-commercial and early-stage definition, staging and benchmarking of innovations! Also open to co-developing this with others to help set the new groundwork for impact-led innovations.
Let me know your thoughts in the comments or shoot me a message if you are interested in co-developing with me,
