Have the courage to offend.

Our modern age of information is full of noise. The bar is lower when you join today, but at what cost?

Monotony.

“Hey! Their posts work, let’s copy them!”

People will jump to get their fair share of attention at the cost of their voice. This is a problem for all of us. It’s not just for the audience or community, but also for creators.

People seek unique perspectives. We crave something different.

Or a different angle on an ancient problem.

Creators love it when their audience engages with their work, but if their work doesn’t reflect their individuality, it won’t matter.

Also, if they don’t like their work, but they have no choice because it works for others, then it’s a problem.

I remembered Gary Bencivenga’s 1st marketing bullet:

“Stand for something, and you’ll never stand alone.”

It’s impossible to serve everybody.

If you serve everybody, then who is your ideal audience?

I bet you can’t produce great work if your content is for everybody.

So, take off your mask and embrace your uniqueness.

Here’s some truth for you:

“If you want to do unique, contributive work, and develop your voice, you must have the courage to offend.” — from Todd Henry’s “Louder Than Words” book.

Stand for something and have the courage to put your unique perspective.

The world needs your unique perspective.
