Long time since I've posted, but only because I've been busy!
Over the holiday break I've been rebuilding my personal website. I have a lot of frustrations with recent trends in web design: pages that take up a lot of screen real estate but show little information, lack of themes that effectively blend various concepts (i.e. a blog vs a CV vs a feed vs a gallery), and a general surrender to major social media sites as the mediator of online identity. In 2022 I want to change that. But that means I need to make my personal site something different.
In terms of requirements, I'm wanting the following:
- the site must preserve existing document structure so as to not break links;
- the site should be effective as a CV;
- the site should highlight that I am a polyworker with multiple interests and skills;
- the site should be content-driven;
- the site should have extemperaneous content as visible as possible (e.g. links of things I'd like to share);
- story views in the site should emphasize readability.
Lots of themes enable one of these features. But to have them all, I need to build my own.
So I am!
Now, I am no designer, but I'm happy with what I've come up with so far. I hope to have it launched soon. I'll post later sharing some of my findings!
