Some thoughts from the telecommunications sphere, where the disaggregation of monolithic systems is really changing the industry: instead of buying the whole mobile phone network from one vendor (e.g. Ericsson, Huawei), the trend is to go "Open" - establish open interfaces between components, so that the telco can pick, chose and connect from a much wider ecosystem.
In theory, this makes everything better. In practice though...
