Today, I learned that a very important person to me passed last year.

Corbett Laubignat passed on March 2nd, 2020. She was 40 years old, and died of complications from heart failure.

Corbett was the first person to defend me in university. She helped me come to terms with disability, and got me accommodations for classrooms and testing. She was a primary reason I graduated at all.

Her influence stays with me to this day. I remember the inherent sense of safety she gave me, knowing that I had someone on my side when I fought for my rights as a disabled person. I strive to be that person for others now. I regularly speak about disability justice. I speak candidly about my experiences as a disabled person. I'm not afraid to be publicly disabled, regardless of how others might see me.

Rest in peace, Corbett. Your legacy lives on.
