Streamed live
Held a Lecture
In winter semester 2014/15, I held my first publicly streamed lecture at the University of Applied Sciences Upper Austria.
I was inspired by one of my former professors during my master's program who, back then, had all his lectures recorded as audio files. I loved the idea because you could always listen to the lectures again, with the original wording. So streaming, I thought, would be even better because it also has visual information.
I chose a pretty straightforward workflow with Hangouts on Air and YouTube because I found the latter to be the most professional platform. Yet, I still wanted easy streaming without any cutting or other form of post-production.
It turned out pretty well, and students loved it. My colleagues were skeptical at the time, mocking me with things like "pajama lectures" since my lectures were always early in the morning, and some students just stayed in bed to watch them. Little did my colleagues know how important live streaming would become about six years later.
In the meantime, my streaming has become more professional. I'm still using YouTube but with an OBS Studio setup, a green screen, key lights, StreamDeck, streaming microphone, and other stuff. And I think my students still like it.

Here's the video of the first lecture. It's German and maybe a bit embarrassing, looking at it now, but still: https://youtu.be/H-xCYTqv7q8
