Left a role
Today is my last day at Amazon so here’s the obligatory farewell post complete with a photo of my badge.

This has probably been one of my most surreal job experiences since I never met any of my coworkers in person, and never went into the office to work. I took my own badge photo and picked it up at Day One. I did end up getting some supplies from the tech vending machine but never had a desk set up.

I also switched teams about halfway during my time at Amazon so I basically on-boarded virtually twice.

I was thinking to myself that so much of my experience at Amazon was in my home office that I might forget I ever worked for the company. It’ll feel like it was just a dream. No banana stand visits, or seeing Jeff Bezos in the elevator or whatever else happens to Amazonians.

During my farewell party (also a video conference), my coworkers asked me what my most memorable experience at Amazon was and I couldn’t think of a single thing.

I finally remembered that there was a team celebration that was a drive in movie night at the Museum of Flight. It was memorable because everyone just stayed in their cars (again, I didn't meet any of my coworkers) and ordered food that was delivered. It was the most Seattle thing ever. No human interaction required.

I wonder if anyone else has done a whole job (interview, offer, on-boarding, resigning) during the pandemic and has had a similar experience? And I wonder if that’s partly why everyone wants to find a new job these days.
