Ended my journey as Data Scientist at the LEGO Group!

Achievements:
  • Collected more than 100k comments from two of the biggest English-speaking LEGO® forums using Scrapy
  • Used Python to develop a three classes sentiment classifier using a Decision Tree model, starting from unlabeled data, achieving an accuracy of 0.6296. Where the baseline given by a Naïve Bayes model scores an accuracy of 0.2592.
  • Proposed a novel data visualization for sentiment analysis with Plotly that will help the reader understanding how each sentence influences the final score of the comment.

For the course in Recommender System, in collaboration with one of my colleagues, we have developed the technical documentation and implementation of the GUI for a reciprocal recommender system. Usually, this kind of system is mainly used in dating environments. We ask ourselves how can be applied in more friendly ones like helping solo-travelers to meet others to explore the city together. After some competitor analysis, research of the user needs, state-of-the-art reading, and A/B testing for the UI, we come with the idea of SoloHive: a mobile application that uses a content-based system to recommend users by considering their location, their travel personalities, and the activities that they want to do. The solution proposed, for the exam, aimed to find a good balance between the user interest and some main tech issues when this kind of algorithm and later platform are built, like safety, fairness, and diversity.
