For the past few months, GitHub OCTO has been working on Copilot, and I'm bursting with excitement to finally share it with the world!

My little crew of badasses did all the storytelling — landing page, copy, design, interactives — and I couldn't be prouder of the team. We also pitched in with early explorations of the UX in VS Code. I can tell you from experience — once you use this thing, you'll never want to code without it again.

Read The Shape of Design by Frank Chimero
Been reading Frank Chimero's delightful little book, The Shape of Design. Misleadingly named, it is a beautiful essay about creation. Whether or not you are a designer, if you make things — this book is a gem.

Download free on https://shapeofdesignbook.com/, but the physical copy is a gorgeous artifact, impeccably typeset and illuminated.

We launched the first public project from the OCTO Developer Experiences team: Flat Data. We wanted to explore what a git-native, dead-simple framework for data handling would look like — something that brings the data to you, instead of you fetching it in your logic.

We've been doing a lot of VS Code development, and we wanted the best possible developer experience for ourselves! Happy to share our extension template, which handles a whole pile of fiddly bits to make a speedy, convenient base for VS Code extensions that contain webviews written in React using Typescript and styled with Tailwind.

We've been building a lot of VS Code extensions at work, and we like Tailwind for styling. This tailwind plugin add's VS Code's theme color variables as Tailwind colors, making it easy to specify colors in the Tailwind Way™.

More to come on extension authoring!
