Jaye Hernandez

Hey, I'm Jaye! I'm a Software Engineer in the Philippines who likes to build and experiment with tech.

In my spare time, you'll find me taking photos, listening to a musical non-stop, or attempting to read books again. Oh, and travelling (once everything is fine).

Volunteered for WWDC Community Week
I worked with the WWDC Community Week web development team and built the Events RSVP and Mentoring Labs modules with React.js and Firebase. This was used for a week long community driven event for WWDC. Also got a shoutout on Twitter!

After a year of being at home, I've bought a lot of stuff online to be more productive in my workstation. This post in Inbytes.dev summarizes all those additions!

Started a new role at Rounded Accounting
I'm excited to work at Rounded.io, an accounting software specifically made for freelancers and sole traders.

It's a new industry to learn about. I'll mostly be working with Ruby on Rails and React.js. This is my first full time remote role, and I'm glad to be a part of the team!

Left a role at BeautyMnl
After over two years, I left my role at BeautyMnl, a homegrown e-commerce platform in the Philippines.

I'm grateful to have had the opportunity to develop features for both the company's in-house operations, and the customer-facing site, using Ruby on Rails and Vue.js with a number of talented developers alongside me.

My beauty and wellness knowledge definitely increased ten-fold too! 💄🌿

Joined a hackathon
For DEV’s GitHub Actions Hackathon, I created an action that (1) replaces curse words with The Good Place appropriate words and (2) comments a forking accurate GIF when you label an issue.

After posting it, it's now:
- Shared over at GitHub's Twitter account
- Included in DEV's Top 7 Popular Posts of the week

This was a great way for me to learn about how GitHub Actions function while working on a project inspired by a show I adore. Read more about it in my blog post.
