Hey 👋🏻

I'm Jem. Or Jam. (Just don't call me "Jim".)

I'm a front-end (/fullstack) web application programmer, and also former manager. I'm a netrovert (introvert IRL, extrovert over digital), xenial (late-stage millenial), auto-didact (self-taught), non-binary, anarchist, feminist, empathic technologist.

As a professional, I'll always fight for accessibility and inclusion. IMHO lately: the JAMstack is rad. I've built up a lot of experience with React, some Typescript where available (tho I'm very happy with "just javascript" too), and a couple variants of styled or component systems. I'm always trying to be conscious of delivering performant, semantically correct, accessible, testable, modular code. As a manager I always worked hard to support my reports and tried to create an environment where more than just the loudest voices in the room were acknowledged.

I've been excited about the potential of the web since as early as ten years old. My first HTML was on Angelfire well over twenty years ago, but I didn't start professionally until 2008. My then boss encouraged me to "lean in" to the coding / design side and  provided opportunities to contribute to design and web work. I've been a focused technologist ever since then, slinging code for clients or companies full time.
