Started a new role
Hiring software engineers, machine learning and artificial intelligence specialists!

We at Parity (getparity.ai) are an anti-racist, remote-first AI startup whose mission is to enable companies around the world to design and use AI, responsibly. Parity is deeply committed to building a diverse, inclusive team where everyone can bring their honest self to work. The nature of our work is sensitive, with huge potential for impact nationwide, so we must be able to have respectful and earnest conversations about challenging topics. We need representation from all walks of life to do this work effectively, and welcome applicants of all shapes and sizes!

We’re VC-backed and early-stage, which means you’ll be exposed to new challenges and technologies every day. We offer generous health insurance (fully paid for by Parity) to all our employees, including trans health coverage. We are more than happy to accommodate those who are differently-abled. Parity employees receive free access to One Medical and health advocacy services. Everyone who works at Parity is a shareholder, with generous equity benefits and full transparency about what they mean for you.

Importantly, we are young and scrappy, which means we can be flexible for the right candidate! If you don’t see a role that works for you, if you’d prefer a modified title, or if you don’t quite meet the experience thresholds set out in the job posts but know you’d rock the role, reach out and chat with us! We’d love to hear from you.

What you will do:

Responsible AI is about holistic design for multiple stakeholders, making sure that everyone has a voice at the table when it comes to building and using AI systems. This means that technical concepts like fairness, interpretability, privacy, security, safety, and robustness should be considered alongside accuracy or other business performance metrics. You will work on multiple projects to cover the lifecycle of responsible AI in multiple industries, and understand how AI can be built from the beginning to be legal and compliant with applicable laws. Your work will result in high-quality software, patents, and/or publications in top academic conferences and journals.

Who you are:

  • You are a demonstrated self-starter and are intellectually curious, creative, resourceful, and highly collaborative.
  • You thrive in a startup environment that empowers you to solve problems on your own or in small project teams with diverse backgrounds.
  • You love solving problems related to fairness, ethics, interpretability, safety, robustness, privacy, or other aspects of responsible AI.
  • You both care deeply about social justice issues and are interested in pragmatic problem solving. You will engage multiple stakeholders to make practical progress toward eliminating systemic racism, financial inequality, killer robots, etc.

We welcome applicants from traditional and non-traditional backgrounds and have no formal degree requirements. Demonstrated ability is far more valuable than formal qualifications! Everyone from PhD graduates to self-starters will be given due consideration. We especially welcome applications from underrepresented backgrounds, be it on the basis of race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, disability status, country of origin, or something else.

Minimum requirements:

  • You have an established track record of output in the AI/ML space. This can mean anything from a comprehensive portfolio of completed projects on Kaggle or GitHub, or have a track record of research publications in prominent AI/ML conferences or journals, especially in the area of responsible AI such as ACM FAccT; AAAI AI, Ethics and Society (AIES), or anything in between.
  • You have demonstrated programming experience in languages used in AI/ML such as Python, R, or Julia. You have used ML libraries and platforms such as scikit-learn, TensorFlow, Keras, PyTorch, Fast.AI, and Flux.jl, to solve practical data science problems. Linguistic diversity is a plus, as is domain expertise in real world data!
  • You have a working knowledge of fundamental AI/ML concepts such as algorithmic design, search, regularization, bias-variance trade-off, supervised and unsupervised learning, etc.
  • You have excellent verbal and written communication skills and can tell stories of complex data analytics with effective presentations and data visualizations. You can tailor your message to multiple audiences such as lawyers, academics, and business leaders.

Preferred requirements:

  • You have strong expertise in fairness, ethics, interpretability, safety, robustness, and/or privacy in the context of AI/ML, possibly in the context of one or more core AI topics such as deep learning (DL), reinforcement learning (RL), planning, information representation and retrieval, graphs, multiagent systems (MAS), and natural language processing (NLP).
  • You have a deep understanding of responsible AI topics such as formal verification techniques for machine learning models; statistical measures of fairness and their relationship with legal, philosophical and sociotechnical concerns; differential privacy; robust machine learning; causal inference; moral ambiguity; strategic classification; and counterfactual analysis.
  • You are comfortable with rapid prototyping and disciplined software development processes.
  • You have practical software engineering experience in collaborative project settings.
