Early on in our work at Süddeutsche Zeitung we noticed an organizational tendency to exclusively focus on our direct competitors when it came to new ideas, features, and concepts. There was a lack of fresh ideas from outside this small circle of companies and brands. While trying to bring different ideas into the company we also noticed how the media we used didn‘t seem to stick.

As Anand Giridharadas notes: “Powerpoint is the language of the status quo.” We needed new ways if we wanted to transport different ideas. One test was the 16-page zine project we called research zine. Issue one, titled „Luxury“ explored the modern luxury industry and the ideas and strategies media companies might copy.
