In my current role as a Facilitator / Resource Centre Youth Employment Advisor, I assist multi-barriered youth to discover and achieve their employment goals in fields that they are passionate about. The program that I created and facilitate, Youth Employment Preparation (YEP), is a three-week youth program that provides participants with the skills, resources, connections, and support to obtain and maintain employment. I support clients in their job search by providing resume, cover letter, and interview assistance, as well as promoting the development of soft skills, such as motivation, self-esteem and enthusiasm. Furthermore, I work collaboratively with my youth clients to develop realistic vocational and personal goals, and individualized action plans.
Being the first to graduate from McMaster University with a double major in Labour Studies & Indigenous Studies has provided me with a unique, multi-cultural approach to career development. I am aware of the distinct barriers to employment experienced by clients from diverse backgrounds, including racialized individuals, people with disabilities, LGBTQ+ populations, and other marginalized groups. I understand that every client is a unique individual with specific wants, needs, interests and attitudes regarding employment, and pride myself on being inclusive, respectful, and intersectional.
