Yesterday I finally achieved something I would certainly call one of my nerd bucket list items. Even though it's a small achievement and a very minor change it still feels great!

I finally was able to find something to contribute in PHP-src! I fixed a bug with the build configs that was preventing libargon2 from being used with password hashing!

So here's to opening my first PHP issue and sending a PR to fix it! 🍻
Peep the PR here: https://github.com/php/php-src/pull/7538

Big shout out to Ben Ramsey (one of the 8.1 release managers) for giving me some guidance and answering my questions. Overall cannot state how much I appreciate the help making this new (to me) process everything so easy.

Created a product prototype
Designed a Backend System
Standardized an internal process

This week I ponder exactly what it means to be tasked with the creation of a new service for our customers. I'm certainly feeling a bit of that Imposter Syndrome nipping at my heels and wondering if I'm ready to be in charge of a task like that.

For now it's all internal facing but the end goal of the project will be a new service we can offer our customers. Something that we hope will give our support teams and customers a better experience overall.

Really excited to take on this new challenge overall though despite my nerves.

Provided training for advanced hosting technology
Trained a new System Administrator
Hosted a training session
+ 1
This week (and next week) I'm helping run back to back sessions of System Administrator trainings centered around our Enterprise hosting solutions. We'll be training 4 of our newly promoted staff so they can effectively manage and administrate our complicated hosting solutions.

The students will learn a range of technologies providing: highly available services, data replication, load balancing and more. In total they'll (hopefully) learn 4/6 of these critical products really well. And have a good grasp of the other 2 we cover. To round out those skills "in the field" with real customers.

In total they will end up being exposed to the following tech:
  • MySQL replication,
  • block device based replication (via DRBD),
  • clustering tools (heartbeat/pacemaker),
  • KVM,
  • iSCSI, and
  • OCFS2.
A massive amount of things to learn in a brief period, but it's all great stuff!

This week I sent over a PR to another Icon pack for the blade-ui-kit Icon pack ecosystem. I happened to stumble upon the icon pack working on a project.

I noticed they weren't using the new generator script we added and that there were some new icons that could be released in the blade package. So I found some time later that night to create and send over the PR.

Now there are 15+ new icons and subsequent updates should be easier. Just checkout the new release tag in the submodule, run the generator script, update the changelog and tag a release!
