Today is a fairly typical day for me with ~3 hours of meetings and the rest of the day devoted to writing/reviewing code! 👩‍💻

My team started the day off with a retrospective which we do once each sprint. If for some reason, your Engineering team does not currently do retros I highly recommend getting started! For context, we lean on Miro for our retro needs.

I'm currently heading into an Engineering All Hands meeting which is a great opportunity to hear about what's going on with the broader, quickly growing, Engineering organization.

I'll wrap up my day this afternoon with a mentorship session which I always look forward to. It's extremely rewarding to work with fellow engineers and assist them with accelerating their career growth. If your company does not currently have a formal mentorship program, I highly recommend considering working with your colleagues to launch a program!

And as I wrap up this post I'm getting pinged by PagerDuty with a reminder that I'm about to go on-call for the next week! This is another responsibility for aspiring software engineers to consider. Your job is not done when your code changes are merged. You and your teammates have a shared responsibility when it comes to observability. You need to consistently keep an eye on metrics, error rates, and much more so that you can proactively address potential issues or, worst case, efficiently tackle issues that affect customers.
