Had a great conversation with Nir Barazida.  He is a data scientist also a developer advocate.  I took recommendations from him about how to start in the dev rel field as a data enthusiast.  

His some advice: 
Create valuable content,
Practice Dev Advocacy stuff (blog, project, etc.)
Do whatever with consistency
