Hard men don't dance - men in conflict with the desire to dance

Techno, belly dance and Tango Argentino, stand-up blues, folk, stage and ballroom dancing: today, the desire to dance manifests itself in many different ways and among people of almost every age, social group and class. But what motivates individuals to learn tango and not African dance, to dance in the mainstream disco and not in the techno club? In short, what is behind such different levels of love of dance?

22 young cultural scientists from the Ludwig Uhland Institute at the University of Tübingen and several guest authors have addressed these and other questions about dance. Through intensive observation and their own dancing, with questionnaires and above all through detailed interviews, the researchers explored an area of contemporary leisure culture that has received little attention so far. "Tanzlust" provides an insight into fascinating dance worlds and reflects numerous forms of everyday dance enjoyment.
