Set Dressing: The Backbone Of Production

Art direction

On-location productions for a client don’t always mean the booked filming spots are camera-ready. They can even be under-prepared and unpresentable. It’s why part of our job in production is to set the scene in any space to the best of our abilities.

As an example, this reel was mostly shot in the tight corner of a hotel florist department. Freshly harvested flowers would move in and out. Bulky vases were lined along shelves. Stem trimmings, leaves, and petals littered the stations.

Our team was careful in making room for the actual florist to be featured while tidying the areas within the camera view. We also ensured everything was put back into order once finished. The florist was pleasant to work with and prepared for our directions. One minor issue was the slightly untidy back of her shirt against the apron-tightening motion.

It all worked out well in the end. There was still some work ahead as this was only one part of an ongoing storyline. Later on, the story continues after the flowers are set for the table.
