Started a new role

Hello! My name is Sydney Scott, and I am currently a rising senior at Brown University studying an independent concentration in Entrepreneurship and Music Innovation! In addition to being a six-event athlete on Brown’s Track and Field Team, I also hold leadership positions on two committees dedicated to advocating for the interests of student-athletes on campus. I spend my free time training, writing/producing music, baking, educating myself on all things social justice, and playing with my dog, Sammi!

I started my internship at Polywork three weeks ago after interviewing with both Meghan (Head of Go-To-Market) and Peter (Founder) for a position on the Polywork team. It was during the interview process that I was first introduced to Polywork, and I was immediately drawn to the professional networking platform after creating a profile. As I continued to add to my page, the value of Polywork became apparent, especially for individuals who “wear many hats” as well as those who struggle to find professional spaces to genuinely express themselves. It was validating and empowering to decide what badges I wanted to display on my profile, and the highlights I could add to my timeline provided an unprecedented way for me to document my activities and projects in detail. I began to see a genuine representation of myself forming on my profile- something that LinkedIn, my resume, or even my creative portfolio had previously failed to do.

Meghan and Peter played a huge role in bringing and welcoming me onto the Polywork team. It was clear after just a few conversations that they were both incredible people who were passionate about Polywork, and I found myself increasingly drawn to how approachable and open they were. In addition, it was clear that they both cared about me as a person, as they sought to find a role that would fit for me as a person and as a professional at Polywork. I was immediately welcomed when I joined the Polywork team, and I appreciated the time multiple team members took to get to know me and offer guidance once I started. With constant support, encouragement, and mentorship from Meghan, I was able to quickly get acclimated to working at Polywork. It’s been amazing to work alongside such a welcoming, intelligent, hard-working group of people in a work environment that literally embodies everything that Polywork stands for. Considering Polywork is still very much a start up, it’s exciting to be part of a group in the process of creating something special and meaningful to a lot of people. I’m learning so much from those around me and am constantly in awe of all the amazing things the team accomplishes every day, and I’m so proud and appreciative to be a part of it!
