Simon Nußbaumer

I love video games and I love programming. That's why I joined hitbox in 2016. And while the company's focus shifted over the years, my passion and enthusiasm for my hobby which became a profession never ceased.

Absorbing knowledge like a sponge is my second nature. So whenever I find out about something new and interesting, I have to know how it works. Comes in handy for what I do :D

Hello everyone.

I'm getting started with Polywork and exploring the site!

Additionally, I'm filling up my timeline with past events (hence the domain simon.events). I'm not sure if anyone will ever read them, but it's a nice way to use Polywork and see what it can do (and what it cannot, giving feedback!).

Happy to connect with people!

Some days ago, a coworker posted a link to StockClock™, a "Live Price Display for Crypto & Stocks".

We thought it was a fun idea but I found the price to be too high, so I wanted to figure out how they built this and how it works.

Luckily, their product pictures reveal that they are using a Adafruit MatrixPortal M4. I bought one because I really like such hardware and wanted to know what I can do with it.

Obviously, as my first project I made it my goal to basically replicate their price display and it also gave me a good opportunity to finally have a look at the Python language. Now I understand why it's so popular: Because it's simple!

It should really look exactly like the real thing so I created a tiny bitmap image and painted each pixel where it belonged.

In the attached image you can see the result. Fun little project!

In one of my previous posts I mentioned that I frequently use Next.js.

This means that every time I want to use it, I have to use the CLI to create a project, set up all the tooling and so on OR I could just create a template, do it once and then never again! :D

Enter Ponjimon/nextjs-typescript-template

It's nothing special, just the basic TypeScript starter from Next.js with some additional sugar I need to start my day.

On bord we can find my favorite eslint and prettier rules along with some other cool dependencies to make my life easier.

I also love using styled-components for styling my components. It's a wonderful tool created by Max Stoiber.

Well, and that's about it! Feel free to use it!

The Shure SM7B undoubtedly is an awesome piece of technology, used by thousands of musicians, artists and so on. But it is also widely used by live streamers who are often also working as influencers.

When a friend of mine bought his Shure SM7B, I jokingly said "Oh, now you too have the influencer microphone."

That's when I got the idea of making sm7b.club. I noticed how many streamers on Twitch were using this microphone too, so I wanted to put them on display and made this small website that does nothing but list streamers who use this website.

I manually curated the list of streamers (still on-going, if you want to be on the list, shoot me a message!) and it even highlights streamers when they are live using Twitch's API!

It gave me a good reason to, once again, use Next.js and Vercel. Both of which I frequently use to just build a quick website.

You can checkout the source code over at GitHub, if you want.

I was joking about the microphone first, but a month later I bought it myself too. Hehe.
