ADPList Product Led Growth: Octalysis - 8 Human Motivations That Drive User Engagement

- Meaning = believe you are chosen to do something good (people contribute to Wikipedia, github, provide reviews etc)
- Accomplishment = making progress (badges, leaderboard). Giving reward as a freebie -> people may wane off
- Empowerment = user engaged in creative process -> figure things out and different combinations, express creativity and get results of creativity (legos and painting)
- Ownership = people are motivated because they feel like they own something. (Tussle between who owns the social content, NFTs)
- Social influence (mentorship, liking, following, companionship. You want to be shown in a certain way, you want to be connected to the cause)
- Scarcity (Booking.com - only 2 available - all about scarcity. If you create scarcity, people will come forward to pay, 2hrs for this offer. The fact that people can't get something right now motivates them to think about it all day long, FOMO -> drives you to do things)
- Unpredictability (casino does this well, many people watch movies or read books because of unpredictability and curiosity. If you don't know what is going to happen next the brain gets more engaged and brain not able to let go)
- Loss and Avoidance (revive insurance in case things go bad)

White hat gamification (positive motivators - meaning, accomplishment, empowerment, ownership)

Black hat gamification (negative motivators - jealousy factors, social pressure, scarcity, avoidance, unpredictability)
