I often hear horror stories of developers being told they aren’t allowed to pair program. Even worse, some of these stories are recount juniors being told not to ‘distract’ senior staff with too many questions.

Encouraging your developers to pair will only be a net positive: you don’t lose half the output. That’s not how it works.

If you’re not seeing the benefits of pair programming, you’re probably thinking too short term, you’re not measuring the net output of your team properly or you have other problems that you’re blaming on pairing.
