Today I closed my first case as a CASA volunteer. Though most family court cases are closed within a year, those of us who advocate for teenagers stay until they find permanent placement or turn 18, whichever comes first. I've been working with the same youth for a year and a half, so it was a little bittersweet to wish them happy birthday and say goodbye as Travis County closed the case.
