When an employee finally gets the appraisal after waiting for long 12-months, the performance in the next very months is noticeable. Why not to appreciate them on daily basis? 

Appraisal does not mean to always give a monetary increase or letting them have an asset but a little tap on their shoulders with a smile saying "Well done", "Good job", "We are proud of having you", "You did it amazingly" and so on ...

Do not wait until the end of the year to express your care, appreciation and support for the employees. Do it more often and this is how you'd significantly retain their interest in work and also keep their morale in high spirits.
