We were so annoyed with people in our university group chats, looking for and trading tickets to clubs and events. The pings were getting just a little bit too much.
Since it's a fairly marketplace, we thought there was an opportunity to automate the whole affair and so sellingx was born after a short weekend hackathon sesh ðĪŠ
We had built the platform over on Stripe to facilitate "peer-to-peer" payments while taking a percentage cut as a platform fee. Within 5 days, we had 600 daily active users and had moved a total of about 300 pounds of money.
Things definitely started to go a little sideways there, Stripe actually ended up de-platforming us for some violations of terms of service and we had to take the page down. But, we think we can build a version that preserves the convenience but bypasses stripe - hopefully we'll have that up by the time Freshers 2022 rolls around!
