As a member of the Cloud Security Team, I performed MSV testing on the Darkside, who is responsible for the Colonial pipeline event. This testing is intended to assess our protection, detection and alerting capabilities to confirm we would be successful should an attack like this occur in IHS. MSV is an attack and breach simulation tool.
The Colonial Pipeline cyberattack took place on 5/7/21 when the Colonial Pipeline suffered a malware attack which forced them to shut down their system, resulting in a halt of all the pipelines operations. This attack affected several of their Information Systems. Darkside is a ransomware criminal enterprise, who is responsible for this attack.
