Hi friends,

I recently left Ironclad, Inc. after 5 mind-blowing years. I’ll post separately about what I’m up to. But for now I just wanted to share a few memories.

When I joined Ironclad, the small team was working out of a studio apartment in San Francisco. I flew out to meet them and slept on the couch at night because we didn’t want to spend our precious Seed funds on an AirBnb.

Fortunately I was already up when Dylan arrived for work bright and early at 7.30am on the first morning!

Turning down a lucrative job in Big Law to join a legaltech startup, 5000 miles away from my girlfriend (now fiancé! 🎉), that had candidates sleep in the office was probably pretty crazy. Mum and Dad certainly thought so.

But meeting Jason, Cai, Cristina, Wanni, and Dylan made it a no-brainer. I knew from the first moment that Ironclad was onto something big. Really big. What I couldn't have known was how much fun we'd have along the way — some highlights from the early days include:

  • When nobody had ever heard of Ironclad but we briefly became the hottest booth at a conference because we smuggled in Philz coffee and were secretly serving it as a delicious alternative to the mud-water at the official coffee stands... right up until we got discovered and shut down 😂
  • When we got stranded at the Las Vegas airport for several hours after a flight cancellation but we had the best time, and Megan won BIG on the penny slot machines (who knew those things actually pay out?!)
  • Learning the meaning of pain at early-morning Barry's workouts with the team.
It wasn't all fun — there were some pretty tough moments too, and a ton of hard work — but man, I'm grateful that I got to be a part of the start of Ironclad's story.

Sometimes I find myself second-guessing my move back to building something new from square 1.

But then I remember moments like these from Ironclad and I know that regardless of the outcome, it will be one hell of a ride.

Thank you to everyone at Ironclad who made the past 5 years so awesome. I can’t wait to see where you take the company next!
