We continue our story series with Marcus du Sautoy.

‘The Story of Maths’ - a four-part British TV series presented by Marcus du Sautoy and produced by Open University and the BBC form the crux our story #23.

Here, in the episode 2 - ‘The Genius of the East’, Marcus explains the contribution of #Indian #mathematicians.

Marcus describes Indian mathematicians’ invention of trigonometry and the introduction of a symbol for the number #zero. He also mentions the work of Brahmagupta and Bhāskara II on the subject of zero. The series also shows the famous Gwalior Fort where zero is inscribed on its walls.

Marcus elucidates Indian mathematicians' contributions to the concepts of infinity and negative numbers.

The show also gives notable mentions to the Madhava of Sangamagrama and #Aryabhata, and also illustrates the historically first exact formula for calculating the π (pi).

So much to learn about our own mathematicians, right?
