Varun B Kothamachu

I have a multi-disciplinary background which includes training in biotechnology, drug discovery, and a Ph.D. in applied mathematics/computational biology.

My professional career has mainly been about working on tough problems and creating value in environments where there is a lot of uncertainty and unknown. This is reflected in the fact that I have primarily worked either at a startup (as a founder and employee) trying to solve hard problems or in academia (postdoctoral work in Cambridge, UK, and Edinburgh, UK) where I focussed on creating new knowledge in areas which were previously unexplored.

The roles that I have worked in include, product development & management, business development, R&D (both hardware, biology & software startups) at companies and research institutes operating in bioengineering/synthetic biology and also in Education technology.

In early 2019, I was recognized by Global Biotech Revolution (GBR) as one of the 100 leaders of tomorrow in biotechnology. As part of this recognition, I was invited along with 99 other select participants from around the world to attend GAP Summit 2019, at the MIT-BROAD Institute in Cambridge, USA.
