Web Design @ The Block - Brooklyn Neighborhood guide

Designing Visual Assets
Exploring Typography

Project Overview

"The Block" is an interactive web-based neighborhood guide designed to showcase the vibrant, diverse neighborhoods of Brooklyn. As the UX designer, my role encompassed developing the website's user experience, information hierarchy, component design, and color palette.

Phase 1: Research and Planning

  • Understanding the Audience: Conducted research to understand the target users - residents and visitors interested in exploring Brooklyn.
  • Competitor Analysis: Analyzed existing neighborhood guides to identify gaps and opportunities for "The Block."
  • Defining Objectives: Clarified the goals of the site, focusing on user engagement, ease of navigation, and providing valuable local insights.

Phase 2: UX Design and Information Hierarchy

  • Information hierarchy: Prioritized neighborhood exploration, then features, then recommendations.
  • Wireframing: Created wireframes to lay out the basic structure of the website.
  • Component Design: Developed reusable UI components such as navigation bars, content cards, and carousels.

Phase 3: Visual Design

  • Color Palette: Selected a color palette that resonated with Brooklyn's unique and eclectic vibe.
  • Typography: Chose typography that complemented the website's modern yet approachable feel.

Phase 4: Prototyping and User Testing

  • Prototype Development: Built a high-fidelity prototype of "The Block."
  • Iterative Refinements: Made iterative changes based on peer feedback.
