One of the highlights of my time at hims, and maybe of my career so far, was launching at-home test kits for COVID via saliva tests. ๐งช
We did most of the UI and integrations within a week, waiting for it to be approved. Could as well have been blocked by the authorities, but it was a bet that paid off.
As far as I'm aware, we were the first company to offer a saliva test kit online, at least in the States. No wait times, to intrusive lobotomy-esque nasal swab: just like a retail DNA test or something.
There was a conscious decision to make basically zero profit out of it, at least when we launched it (not sure of the current economics). This wasn't only the right thing to do: it also helped boost morale at a time when we all had uncertainty about what'd happen with the virus and our industry.
It also showcased a remarkable speed to get things done. Something I'm still proud of, up to this day.
