How to create and add custom Badges to your Polywork profile

By far one of the most popular features on Polywork are the Badges users can add at the top of the profile. Badges let you express every part of your multifaceted professional (and personal) identity, whether you’re an Investor, Python Developer, Journalist or Open Source Contributor—or you’re a Plant Mom, Dog Dad, Rabbit Hole Explorer or White Claw Enthusiast

We see a ton of excitement on Twitter from Polywork users exploring, discovering and having fun with adding a variety of badges to their profile. But one common, recurring question we see is:

"I wish Polywork had a badge for _____" (fill in the blank with the badge of your dreams).

Here’s the great news: You can create your own badges! With the exception of a few Badges that the Polywork team created when we first built the product, every single Badge on Polywork was created by a user like you👊

Here’s how you can make your own (with some step-by-step visuals at the bottom of this post):

  1. Select the “Edit” button next to your existing badges at the top of your profile; if you’re on desktop, hover over the Badges section in order to see the “Edit” button.

  2. Select “Add new badge.”

  3. Scroll down to explore available badges, or search for the Badge you want to add; if someone from the Polywork community has already created it, it will show up.

  4. If the badge you want doesn’t show up, it doesn’t exist yet, which means you get to create it! Select “Create it here.”

  5. Pick a corresponding icon from Polywork’s library to represent your Badge, and then pick a Badge icon color.

  6. Select “Create.”
That’s it! Your Badge will now appear on your profile page for the whole Multiverse to see—and if another user wants to add it in the future, it will already exist for them to find🕵️

Here are a few other cool things about Badges you may not know:

  • You can easily see who else has added the same Badge to their profile by clicking on any individual Badge on your or someone else’s profile. This will take you to a page where you can see the total number of people that also have the Badge, and what activities people are up to related to that Badge.

  • On that same page, you’ll be able to see who created the Badge. Yep—that means for any Badge you create, your name will forever will forever be tied to it, etched in the annals of Polywork as the creator of that Badge!
We’re excited to see which Badges you create to express your whole self on Polywork!
